Now that the first big snow storm of the season has come and gone, it’s time to embrace the winter season and all the fun it has to offer. The holiday season can be stressful for many, so why not get outdoors and enjoy some relaxing, quality time with friends and family along the waterfront this weekend. Begin by lacing up your skates and visiting your local outdoor rink. Head over to Sherbourne Common in East Bayfront, where the outdoor skating rink is officially open for the season. With stunning views of the city skyline and Lake Ontario, this park is an ideal place for people of all ages to gather and get some exercise while enjoying the fresh air.

Seating along the eastern and western edge of the 920 square-metre rink provide ample space for putting on your gear or taking a quick rest to sip on some hot chocolate. If you’re feeling playful, wander across the park’s open lawns to take advantage of the fresh snowfall by making snow angels or starting your own impromptu snowman building contest.

If you’re in the mood for some upbeat tunes, head west to the Natrel Rink at Harbourfront Centre for free DJ Skate Nights. From December 13 until February 21, this popular rink is transformed into a waterfront dance floor every Saturday night. And if the dancing doesn’t keep you warm, stop by the Lakeside Local Bar & Grill for some hot food and drinks.

And be sure not to miss the last weekend of the Waterfront BIA’s annual Winterfest taking place on the water’s edge this weekend, from December 20-21. The BIA invites you to come celebrate the magic of the holiday season with fun activities that will entertain the entire family. Stop by Queen’s Quay Terminal to make eco-friendly crafts before watching the live Frozen show where you can meet and sing along with the Ice Queen and Ice Princess. Bring your pets to the Purina PawsWay for a memorable pet photo with Santa and stick around for the Ultimutts Stunt Dog Show.  Embark on Mariposa’s 9th annual Santa Cruise aboard The Northern Spirit and take a free family photo with Santa.
