We Want Your Feedback on the Design for Aitken Place Park

Apr 17, 2015

Situated in the emerging East Bayfront neighbourhood, Aitken Place Park will be in the heart of the new Bayside development.

As Toronto’s next waterfront park, located just east of Sherbourne and south of Queens Quay, Aitken Place Park will serve as a local neighbourhood amenity for those living in the area. The 0.75-acre park will offer opportunities for play and recreation, as well as quiet places to relax and enjoy waterfront views.

Over the next few weeks, we will be seeking public feedback and input on the programming (needs and uses) for the park. The park’s preliminary programming study has been presented to the Waterfront Design Review Panel for input and feedback to help ensure the park meets the high-standards set out for the waterfront. We expect to begin construction of the park in 2017 and have it open to the public in 2018. Once complete, Aitken Place Park will be owned and operated by The City of Toronto.

Scott Torrance Landscape Architect Inc. and Thomas Balsley Associates were selected as the successful proponent to design Aitken Place Park. In the video below the team walks you through the first stage in the design process – the preliminary design concepts for the park. The video and presentation materials give an overview of the site and area, wind and sun analysis, best practices, the goals and design principles, the park program and the concept plan.

Waterfront Toronto will be collecting your feedback on the design until Thursday, April 30. This is your opportunity to review the primary design concept and send us your thoughts. All the public comments will be summarized in a report that will be submitted to the design team to help them move forward in creating the final design concept for the park. We will be presenting the design development this summer and seeking additional public input.

How to Provide Your Feedback

Step 1: Review the preliminary design materials below. We’ve made the materials available in a video format, as well as in PDF. They’re embedded below for easy viewing.
